LIBRARY CARDS

To be eligible for a Shelby Township Library card you must live or be a taxpayer in Shelby Township. To apply for a library card, proof of residency is required. A valid Michigan Driver’s license/Michigan State ID or two forms of acceptable ID with a current address.

Shelby Township Library is a member of the Suburban Library Cooperative (SLC). All libraries in the Cooperative offer borrowing privileges to Shelby Township residents. For a complete list of SLC member community libraries, click here


BORROWING ITEMS

Most items may be borrowed for 3 weeks including:
  • Books
  • Audio Books
  • Compact Discs
  • Magazines
  • Cliff Notes

Late fines for these items are $0.15/per day overdue.

Some items can be borrowed for 7 days including:
      • Adult Feature DVDs
      • Juvenile Feature DVDs
      • Non-Feature DVDs

Late fines for these items are $1.50/per day overdue.

14 day materials include:
      • New Adult Fiction

Late fines for these items are $0.15/per day overdue.


HOLDS

As long as you have a valid library card, you can be put on a waiting list for most items that are checked out. You can do it yourself through the Library Catalog or ask a Librarian to reserve (hold) the item for you. When the item arrives at the Shelby Township Library you will be notified by email or by an automated phone message, email or text message. A few items, like new items owned by some other libraries, and items there is a charge to check out like feature-film DVDs may not be placed on hold.

If you are requesting an item that is currently on the Shelby Township Library’s shelves and you intend to pick it up shortly, call the Library at 586-739-7414 and we will hold it for you at the Check-Out desk.
